Future of NRL Magic Round locked in for Queensland

14/05/2026

Magic Round is set to stay at the home of rugby league, Suncorp Stadium, until at least 2032 in a new partnership between Stadiums Queensland and the NRL.

The round will also extend into North Queensland, delivering Women’s State of Origin to Queensland Country Bank Stadium

Together with Tourism and Events Queensland, Brisbane Economic Development Agency, and the Queensland Government, Stadiums Queensland has secured a five-year extension to expand the blockbuster event throughout Queensland, in what will be a great addition to the golden runway to the Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics in 2032.

Since the inaugural Magic Round in 2019, a massive 840,445 fans have attended the event at Suncorp Stadium, including a record 149,326 to last year’s event, evidence Magic Round has established a foothold at the home of rugby league.

Stadiums Queensland Chief Executive Todd Harris said the event will continue to grow bigger and better with the introduction of the Perth Bears and PNG Chiefs in the next two years.

“This is a uniquely Queensland event, and its importance to the fans, the code, the tourism industry and the broader Queensland community cannot be overstated,” Mr Harris said.

“While Suncorp Stadium will remain the heart of Magic Round, this partnership gives us the opportunity to spread the magic across the state to another Stadiums Queensland venue, Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville, providing more opportunities for passionate rugby league fans to enjoy the spectacle.”

“It puts the game and the state on a much bigger stage and will be a fantastic preview of what’s to come for Brisbane 2032.”

Stadiums Queensland owns and operates Queensland’s top sport, entertainment, and high-performance venues.

The portfolio includes Suncorp Stadium, The Gabba, Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Cbus Super Stadium, People First Stadium, Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre, Sleeman Sport Complex and Queensland Tennis Centre.
