Stadiums Queensland is officially a member of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), reaffirming SQ’s commitment to its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Framework and Action Plan.
The GBCA sets out to introduce and drive the adoption of sustainable practices, and is also responsible for the GreenStar Built, Performance and Communities certification, which is the Australian standard for sustainable buildings and places.
The membership allows Stadiums Queensland to collaborate with industry partners, stakeholders, and the broader community, and stay up-to-date in the latest sustainable practices in the sports, infrastructure, tourism, and event sectors.
Sustainability Manager Kate Harding said the membership is a great step in ensuring SQ is integrating sustainability into the management of our precincts, venues, and events.
“Stadiums Queensland strives to be an industry leader in sustainability, and we are committed to ensuring we prioritise our SQ ESG priorities, including; energy, climate change, water, biodiversity, nature conservation and environmental values, health and wellbeing, inclusion and diversity, Indigenous engagement and participation, ESG governance, placemaking and sustainable sourcing and resource management,” Kate said.
“Our hirers are increasingly requiring Stadiums to meet a minimum GreenStar Performance certification to host mega events, such as the Rugby World Cup 2027.
“Stadiums Queensland is looking to develop a future strategy for our portfolio to attain GreenStar Performance Certification, which will enable us to attract, support, and aspire for more sustainable events in the future.”
