Queensland is set for a history making weekend of finals, having cemented its reputation as the undeniable home of major sport.
Five Queensland teams are still in contention for premierships in 2026 in the four major competitions: the NRL Dolphins, NRLW Gold Coast Titans, AFL Brisbane Lions and AFLW Gold Coast SUNS.
The state is set to host two history making finals this weekend, with Cbus Super Stadium hosting their first-ever NRLW finals match, an all-Queensland NRLW blockbuster between the Gold Coast Titans and the Brisbane Broncos that will propel the winner into the grand final; while the Dolphins gear up for their first-ever home final against the Roosters at a sold-out Suncorp Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Brisbane Lions will battle it out for a three-peat for the AFL premiership against Freemantle this Saturday.
The Queensland-dominant finals come off the back of record crowds this season as Queenslanders rallied behind their home teams that have again shown they can hold their own against Victoria and New South Wales.
Stadiums Queensland Chief Executive Todd Harris said finals season in Queensland created an atmosphere unmatched anywhere in the world.
“Queensland has proved time and again that we punch well above our weight in both the men’s and women’s AFL and NRL competitions and we know the cheering fans in the stands have helped drive them forward,” Mr Harris said.
“Our venue teams have been working hard behind the scenes all season to pull home games together and set the stage for some of our biggest sporting events of the year and help propel our teams into the finals.”
