Suncorp Stadium and Queensland Country Bank Stadium were a sea of green and gold as the Socceroos took on Brazil in two friendly matches as part of the Queensland-exclusive series.

While the matches ended in a 1-1 draw, and 4-2 win to Brazil, it’s clear the real winner was the sold-out 25,440 and 53,423 strong crowds who were treated to an exceptional display of international football by the national team and five-time world champions Brazil.

Football fever took over both cities, with open trainings, signings and activations including the street parties that took over Flinders and Caxton Streets, complete with Brazilian music and dancing.

Townsville’s friendly match proved a huge drawcard to the city with 70% of ticket holders travelling from outside Townsville for the event.

Thousands of football fans poured into the venues for Socceroos open training sessions, giving fans the chance the star-studded squad up close.

Stadiums Queensland Chief Executive Todd Harris said the series was a great opportunity for Queensland fans to enjoy top tier football from one of the world’s greatest teams in their own backyard.

“Hosting the Brazil National team for the first time in Queensland was a truly historic opportunity for Queenslanders; it was fantastic to witness the sold-out crowds get behind these great events,” Mr Harris said.

“Being able to host two international football matches at two of our venues proves our strength and capability to attract and deliver incredible events for Queenslanders and we’re grateful to our partners for helping to ensure we continue to host the world’s best sporting events.”

The Queensland Football Series was supported by the Queensland Government and Tourism and Events Queensland.
