Queensland is preparing for one of its biggest AFL seasons to date, with the state’s AFL teams Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast SUNS set for a huge 2026.

Off the back of record-breaking seasons, both teams’ momentum is at an all-time high as fans from Brisbane to the Gold Coast prepare to witness some of the biggest sporting moments of the year at The Gabba and People First Stadium as the AFL season kicks off 5 March.

The Brisbane Lions are entering the season with enormous confidence after claiming back-to-back premierships in a dominant 122-75 win over the Geelong Cats in the AFL Grand Final.

With a total of 373,211 passionate fans cheering on at Lions home games in 2025, this season is set to add to the electric energy that has become synonymous with Lions’ crowds.

Following this weekend’s opening round against the Bulldogs, the team’s home games are scheduled across a range of days and time slots offering flexibility to the growing Pride.

The Gabba games will be the hottest ticket in town, with six of home games against teams that finished in the Top 8 last year, including a traditional Easter Thursday blockbuster against Collingwood in round 4.

Down the highway, the Gold Coast SUNS are entering their 16th season in the AFL on a high note, after a huge 2025 in their first ever finals campaign and a skyrocketing rise in popularity.

The 2025 season saw the team post their largest winning margin in club history when they beat Essendon by 95 points, claim their biggest win ever in an 87-point victory over West Coast, and a Brownlow medal win by Matt Rowell.

Their first match is set to be a high-energy sellout against Grand Finalists Geelong on home turf at People First Stadium.

With Queensland footy fever at an all-time, The Gabba and People First Stadium are the place to be this AFL season!
