Brisbane Stadium is on track to begin construction soon, with the Queensland Government making key stadium announcements 12 months on from the release of the 2032 Delivery Plan.
It has been revealed that the new stadium’s field of play will be the equivalent of the MCG, making it significantly longer than The Gabba to better accommodate an athletics track.
The venue’s location within Victoria Park was also revealed, with the stadium to be embedded into the existing topography of the site, sitting between two hills in a naturally occurring amphitheatre.
The location means the stadium will be in a central position near Gilchrist Avenue to allow seamless connection with existing transport infrastructure.
The east-west orientation for the field of play was settled after workshop discussions with AFL and Cricket Australia, and SQ has been working closely with government and stakeholders on ensuring the operational considerations like legacy needs and stadium footprint were considered.
This orientation will be well suited to operational needs and the new stadium will be an amazing venue for our hirers Brisbane Lions, Brisbane Heat, Queensland Bulls, Queensland Fire, Cricket Australia, and major promoters.
