Stadiums Queensland is set to deliver the largest upgrade to Suncorp Stadium in the venue’s 23-year history, which will boost capacity, improve fan engagement and enhance the venue experience.
Suncorp Stadium will be transformed with 30% bigger video screens, new bars, and a boost in capacity to around 56,000 to meet strong event demand and ensure Suncorp Stadium remains world-class.
It comes as the venue prepares to host an unprecedented pipeline of major events, including State of Origin III; Rugby League World Cup; Rugby World Cup 2027; and international concerts including Foo Fighters and Robbie Williams.
The upgrade includes:
- Supersized scoreboards and a 360-degree LED ribbon board suspended from the roof
- External large scale media mesh at both ends of the stadium capable of displaying eye-catching graphics and engagement for fans
- New terrace bars behind the goals at both northern and southern ends, with both standing and seated positions to create a unique premium space
- Safe standing areas within the seating bowl and concourse.
- Depending on final configuration, these upgrades will boost total capacity by up to 3,500
The proposed upgrades draw inspiration from contemporary stadia developments around the world, including the Australian-first roof-mounted ribbon board inspired by the innovative installations at Atlético Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium and Real Madrid’s Bernabéu.
Stadiums Queensland Chief Executive Todd Harris said now was a perfect time to invest in the future of Suncorp Stadium.
“Since its redevelopment, Suncorp Stadium has become the home of the Brisbane Broncos, Dolphins, Queensland Reds and Brisbane Roar, as well as a growing list of internationally significant events, and investment is key in ensuring it keeps pace with demand,” Mr Harris said.
“This will further enhance the venue’s ability to host the world’s biggest events, and we are pleased to be working with the Queensland Government and other partners to deliver these works, as part of investment in the Stadiums Queensland portfolio.
Design work has commenced with construction expected to commence towards the year end.
